DLC == Expansions

They're the exact same. You don't pay for the content, you pay to access and play the content. If it's DLC you're just going to eliminate access keys by attaching content access directly to your account excluding the middle-man, I would imagine.

Really, I don't see a difference.

Keep it one game, no more factions/NF game ruiners.

You let your nostalgia blind you. Is people having too much fun and simple convenience a bad thing?

I do, however, agree they should let the game go for a year before adding a factions.
Inscriptions=good
Heroes=horrible for PvP. I guess they were good for PvE, I never had a problem finishing anything other than THK and Nahpui Quarter with henchmen.
PvE skills=PvE is even easier than before, and most of them gain in strenth the more you grind, which is bad. They also further divide PvE and PvP, which is, again bad.

Anet will probably go with expansions and allow you to buy and download them. Personally, I don't care either way.

Edit: No expansions if they introduce things that break the game, please.

Dividing PvE and Pvp is just a sentence. I don't see how that is significantly bad for PvErs who just want to blow shit up.
And I don't see how PvE skills making the game easier makes it bad. Big numbers= What PvE fun is all about. Besides CoP, none of them were game-breaking anyways.
I do, however, agree that the choice to make them grind-skills was a bad idea.

I hope PvE skills return in GW2, but without being linked to a title. Because in reality, they're just a pair of mostly profession-wide skills that are a little more powerful than normal skills, hence the 3 skill limit. And if they're without grind, then they could be balanced easier. The concept isn't bad at all.

I prefer boxed expansions every 6 months to a year depending on size.

Not just because creditcards are slowly dying and are getting less and less used (read the memo - micro games offering 10+ payment options are forced to constantly expand their capacity while those using only creditcard struggle to fill 1-3 servers) but also for some nice free publicity.

All those expansions selling means GW2 or whatever expansion ends up in the game hitcharts for some weeks which can attract new players.

Besides.. since they've said GW2 remains without a monthly fee shows they will keep to their current business model for succes - selling lots of expansions.

Expansions for big updates, microtransactions for optional unnecessary things (do not like them, but ANet will probably need them).

Just please keep number of skills and professions lower than in GW1 ! The need to add new professions and tons skills for older professions with each expansion is bad. Less IS more. Maybe group professions together (for example give profession in expansions alternative primary attibute you can switch style, like warrior-dervish-paragon, necro-ritualist, ranger-ass )... but still be one class so when changes makes for example dervish not effective in some point in time in PvP or high-end PvE you are free to use warrior way without creating new character. And no more ower-povered PvE skills (or just limit them to specific part of game world).

How's about both?

You can purchase bits of content in the form of DLC, or you could buy in-store DLC packs?

Marketing implemented new purchase add ons /panes ect ect.

As it was stated its one of fee.So they will be be ensuring that the revenue keeps flowing I for one dont mind as over the 4 yrs my spend can be said as nil even tho with muti accnts ect.

As no subs expenditure is minimal over time spent on it.whatever they add after its release

Expansions, for the reasons of not having to trail through an entire campaign. To bypass the whole new class issue they just need a ton available at the start and have a job-like upgrade system seen in other mmo's (which would be wise to keep to pve or just make it have no affect on pvp).

Agree. They need a better way of expanding the existing game. The campaign format in GW1 is what killed the game, it collapsed under its own bloat, wasn't sustainable or practical to reinvent the wheel every 6 months.

No, it actually was. Problem however was that their current setup prevented to expand the game itself (upgrades core/engine wise) and the constant full-game expansions forced them to create a tutorial every time with all the old content + new.

So, instead of overhauling gw1 as you see in other games (just look at stuff like eve, recreating the entire tutorial as the game grew to advanced for the old one to be suitable enough) they decided to make a whole new game. Also remember there are a lot of different gw versions : just 1 game, just 1 + nf, just 2, just 2 + nf, just 3, just 3 + nf... upgrading things engine wise could potentially cause some huge trouble that can be avoided by just starting over.

Regardless of what other say , new chapters for GW1 was a great idea. Those who disagree have some issues with evolution of the game..

Regardless i really dont like virtuall downloads.. at all. i rather have a good olf hard copy to sit on my shelf and know that is somethgin happens my hard copy is right there and i can re-install the content faster then downloading it from a source. which would spare my internet and my time infront of the PC.. I am all for "expansions" on a CD.

I want both, and I think they will need both. I think we need both paid and free DLC, and then every year or so we need a box expansion to liven things up.

The game isn't even out yet, and yet this thread exists. *sigh* You might as well make a 'Do you want a GW3?" thread.

For me, part of the fun of getting a new game is going to the store, hoping that it is in stock, and coming home with a box that is oversized considering it is only holding a CD or two.

You know if you put it that way I can see why you would want DLC over campaigns.

I always hated having to work through areas in Guild Wars campaigns to get to the fun bits. Sorrows Furnace was awesome.

Campaigns, but they should release them slower and introduce fewer amounts of skills. If they have to put in new professions, they should put them in one at a time.

This might eventually lead to the same fate as GW1, but it will happen much much slower. :P
